Ellen Carrlee was born and raised in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She spent her college years at University of Wisconsin-Madison, living in a commune, motorcycling, and earning a degree in art history. In 1996, she moved to New York and earned her master's degree in art history and art conservation at New York University, spending summers working at an archaeological excavation at Sardis, Turkey.
Ellen works as a conservator at the Alaska State Museum. She came to Juneau in 2001, following her husband Scott and his mountaineering interests. They both enjoy hiking, camping, kayaking, and running. Ellen earned her SARtech II certification in October, 2006 and is now awaiting the arrival of her first child—due in August 2007.
