about Peter

Having been paid to forecast and mitigate snow avalanches for almost 30 years,(since 1978)—Peter is considered by many to be one of the most experienced and capable snow science professionals in the United States today.

In addition to his work as Snow Programs manager with AvaDogs Alaska. He is currently employed by the State of Alaska as a forecaster for the highway corridor through Thompson Pass in Valdez, Alaska. In addition, Peter oversees the highway avalanche program in Cordova, and is a heli-ski guide.

He has managed a number of ski patrols, a ski area, the University of Alaska Southeast Outdoor Studies program, and the Alaska Division of the National Ski Patrol's avalanche education program. He has worked for the British Columbia highways Snow Avalanche Program at Kootenay, BC and Bear Passes, various mountain rescue groups, and the Southeast Alaska Avalanche Center.

Always in demand as an instructor, Peter has presented his snow science research at the International Snow Science Workshop as well as the Western Snow Conference.

He and his wife were the first to summit—in a single season, the two highest mountains in North America. In addition to his extensive outdoors experience, Peter has a degree in law.
