How can I help AvaDogs?

Join the Team
AvaDogs Alaska is always looking for committed people to join our team. We recommend those who are thinking about becoming a search dog handler, spend some time with us and see what is involved before getting their dog. Training a search dog is a tremendously rewarding, but life-altering commitment, and not for everyone. We also have members who do not have dogs, who work as Search and Rescue Technicians (SARTechs). These team members play a vital role in our training and operational capability while providing security and an additional set of eyes for our canine handlers.

Help with Training
This is a great way to enhance our capability and give back to the community without making a long-term commitment. We are in constant need of new folks to “get lost”. We really try to mix up the people we hide so the dogs don't get too used to any one person. Grab a book and relax in the great outdoors as our dogs practice their wilderness area search techniques. Most training sessions last about two hours.

In the winter we are busy digging cozy snow caves to hide our volunteers in as we practice our avalanche rescue techniques. Grab a shovel and help us dig a cave, or jump in and take some photos as one of the AvaDogs pops their nose into your cave and finds you.
